Back to Work or Survival Instructions of Newbie Working Mom

You know how I use this blog to rant about stuff? Well, I have family with rantings needs also. This one comes from my sister with a true, heartfelt confession. I was super mad about the injustice of it all, at first! And then, super sad. Let’s be super sad together? Back to Work or Survival Instructions of Newbie Working Mom by Sista So, I survived the first full week of work after being “fortunate” to have spend [only] 6 months [half of them unpaid] of maternity leave with my firstborn daughter. That makes me feel like a seasoned veteran...

A Word on Boobs, Sexuality and Motherhood

You know what this blog with all it’s profanity and booze references is missing? Some baby talk. And I’m happy to report I’ve got some for you. I am very excited because this is coming from my sister, and I’ve been nagging her for months to write something baby-ish related. And she came back with writing about her boobs. Bless her soul. A Word on Boobs, Sexuality and Motherhood by Sista I’m the mother of the 5 month old baby. It’s hard to believe! With some of the tough times of colicks behind, in the midst of teething, and with...

I’m a Fairy Godmother. Without the fairy part

So, this weekend I became a godmother. I became a godmother to the same person that made me into an aunt. And if you’re confused, I became a godmother to my niece. It’s not that hard (also, I wrote about her arrival here). So this little person is giving me titles left and right. For free. Which is awesome. Unless, I’m getting the invoice in my mail in like 20 years from now. In which case, joke is on you niece/goddaughter, I might not be alive in 20 years, your invoice will go unanswered.   Family finances aside, this Sunday...

We named her Marta

So my sister had her baby, you guys (!). To much relief of everyone involved because she was in labor for three days. And did not strangle her husband in his sleep. Which I would totally go for, or at least attempt because if I suffer I’m taking somebody else down with me. But my sister remained civil throughout the whole process and even had he hair nice an washed. That a girl. I felt bad for her. And decided to assist in the only way I knew how – I asked Twitter for support. And a lot of people...

Ask me how to organize a baby shower

So, this Saturday was my sister’s baby shower. Some of you may know that I have an eligible sibling for such an event, meaning a pregnant sister who’s getting real close to the whole breathe-and-push day. And curse, breathe-and-push-and-curse. I’m pretty sure she’ll be the curser, we’re related and there is a strong predisposition to this assumption.   So my mom and I were the ones who organized the whole thing. Mostly because when you’re related you don’t get to choose, but also mostly because we really wanted to. And boy, were we nervous as shit. You have to understand,...

Bloody Bay, zombies, and the beauty of pregnancy

So in anticipation of my coming vacation, all I can talk about is, well, vacation. Remember that I have a sister, she’s pregnant, and she just came back from Jamaica. She was nice enough to share her experiences. I sort of demanded them out of her specifically for this blog. So, you’re welcome   Here we go.   Last day of vacation in Jamaica. As usual, there’s that feeling: I wish we had just one more day… This time though the feeling is also mixed with something new, something I’ve never experienced before [severe diarrhea?]. The anticipation of a miracle of new...

Babies don’t like to be poked

So here’s a message update from my sister on her pregnancy. In case you’re a newbie, the idea for this section originated here. Babies don’t like to be poked [this is the title she came up with. And I was intrigued immediately. I mean, I know my sister for quite some time, and technically I understand she’s not the type to go around poking babies. BUT. In the back of my mind, I was like ‘Ooh boy, I wander if the pregnancy hormones took over and she’s on a loose.’]    But then, who does? It’s like that “poke” option...

Babies don’t like alcohol and interior design

Ok, status update.   Below is the email I got from my sister because we’re cool like that and communicate via email (inappropriate remarks in parenthesis are from me):   So, my pregnancy app asks me to write some memories once in a while (of course there is an app for that). Today it asked about grandparents. I’m sharing this with you. The grandparents are over the moon excited!!! [So, the first thought in my head was: what is she talking about, our grandparents are dead. Well good thing I kept this to myself (well sort of) because then I realized she meant...

So, I have a sister

So, I have a sister. And she’s not a brother because she’s a she. I’m not sure how she feels about this, maybe she would rather be a brother, the question never came up. I’ll clarify and keep you posted. This sort of leads you to thinking that she maybe had a sex change operation or something. Let me be clear – she did not; she was born that way, hey! (I sang that in my head because that’s a Lady Gaga song).   Anyway, none of that was relevant. Having a sister is kind of cool, but then...
